Overlaps the pages –
the picture goes over both pages and take up the majority of the spread.
I will use this convention as I think the picture is the
most important thing on the double page spread. I would like to have my artist’s
body in some way crossing the two pages.
Close up on the face _
the shot used here is a close up of the artists face, this creates quite an
intense vibe to the page but also makes it seem quite personal and intimate.
This could perhaps link to the topics discussed in the article. I don’t think this would really be appropriate for my
magazine as this creates quite an intense sort of vibe that wouldn't be
appropriate for a pop magazine.
Quite dark – the photo
is relatively dark and there is strong use of shadows, this is clever as it
makes the artist appear somewhat mysterious, this also enticing the audience
into wanting to read more as they would want to know about this allusive
person. Again I don’t really think this would work in my magazine as
I will be using very bright and happy colours and would like to carry this on
throughout my images.
Eye contact – the
artist has eye contact with the reader creating more of a connection between
the artist and their fans. This I feel, is really important for my magazine as the
artists would have large fan bases and so the need for a connection between the
reader and the artist is important.
Only two columns of
writing – normally I would have expected three columns however this article
only has two. This could be linked to the fact that there are two sides to the
artist and this article is what will unveil them. I am still unsure of how many columns I will have as I haven’t
wrote the article yet and sop would need to see it written down to decide.
Font size – there
is a range of font sizes used, with the title being the largest and the rest of
the article getting respectively smaller. I like this and will definitely have a range font sizes used
in my double page spread.
Quote – there is
a quote over the picture on the left. This gives a small insider into the
article and helps create the initial tone of the page. I will use quotes on my page though I think I will make them
slightly more prominent on my page and possibly have more than one.
