Double Page Spread Main Image Edit Comparison

This is the photo I decided to use on my double page spread, however I did a lot of editing on this photo to make it magazine worthy.

Original photo.
Final Photo

The most obvious change that I made is that the back wall is now completely black, I think this is better as I think its important for the main focus of the photo to be the band.
I then used the healing brush and spot healing brush to get rid of any imperfections on the model's faces. Then I changed the colour of all the girls lips to make them more red and make the girls look more like pop stars.
Then I tidied up the girl on the right's hair as it was a bit messy next to the wall.
After this I focused on the central girl, I didn't like how her hair was tucked behind her ear and so I clone stamped some hair over that.
I then got rid of her bra strap that was visible on her shoulder.
Although these are all quite minor details, I think that combined together they make the photo appear far more professional.

Front Cover Photo and Edit

I chose this photo as the main image for my front cover as it is fun, quirky and shows a lot of personality.

My target audience have told me that they would prefer a plain white background on the front cover and so the first thing I did to my photo was I cut it out from the background.  Then I was just making slight alterations to the models, for example the girl on the left's bra was slightly showing under her arm and so I clone stamped that out. I also tidied up the two girls at the back's hair, particularly the girl on the left as part of her hair was over her face, so again I clone stamped that out.

New Fonts

A piece of feedback I received after my rough cut was that, the '2013 Fashion Awards' segment of my front cover needed to be made bigger and become more eye-catching. I thought the best way to do this was through a new font. Which also covers another piece of feedback I received which was there was not enough font variation.
I went on the website dafont.com and found three fonts that I thought could work. I then asked two members of my target audience which they preferred.

They told me that they liked the first and third font and so I will download these fonts and utilise them on my front cover and perhaps at other points in my magazine.

Sarah Photo Edit

Here are the original photo I took and the edited version. I didn't edit this photo much I just played around with the brightness to make the image clearer.

New Double Page Spread Main Photo

After my rough cut feedback I decided to re-take my main double page spread photo. The problem with my original photo is that it was too dark and so the photo came out slightly grainy. Therefore lighting was my main area of concern as I was re-taking the photo. I played around with different camera settings, particularly the aperture setting and these photos were the result.

I like how clear this photo is, so I think I will use this image.

This photo is too dark.

Yeah...this one might be a tad too dark as well.

The girls look too washed out on this photo.

Again this photo was too dark.

New James Photo Edit

I didn't use photoshop too much on this photo, it was more tweeking to make the photo more magazine worthy. I did three main things to this photo:
- the first is that I used the spot healing brush to fix any imperfections on his face
- the second is that I used the clone stanp, blur and smudge tools to cover the gaps in his hair and create more of a 'sweep'
- the third is that I, like my other photos, changed the contrast to improve the sharpness of the image
